Logitech still provide a version of their Media Server for FreeBSD, but it's compiled to run under FreeBSD 7. That's not a major problem, since there are compatibility packages available in the ports to allow old binaries to run with newer releases of the OS. But the application is mostly perl: in this case, perl 5.8, which is also rather out of date. This is an edition of Logitech Media Server (LMS) for FreeBSD i386/amd64, which is set up to use later versions of perl and to run on more recent releases of the OS than Logitech's official version. QUICK START: If you have a fast connection, download the contents of this directory into an empty directory on your own system. Then, as root: sh install.sh DOWNLOADING: There are several different versions of LMS stashed here; you probably don't want all of them. So, download everything except the LMS packages (the .tgz files), then download a suitable LMS package. CHOOSE YOUR LMS: You'll need at least one version of LMS. These are named: logitechmediaserver----.tgz For example, a version of LMS 7.7.3 compiled with perl 5.12.4 on a 64-bit FreeBSD 8.3-STABLE might be called: logitechmediaserver-7.7.3-33978-perl-5.12.4-FreeBSD-8.3-STABLE-amd64.tgz FRESH INSTALL: If this is a fresh installation, rather than an update, you'll also need a copy of the startup script: squeezeboxserver.tpl See INSTALL in this directory (http://www.xenopsyche.com/ip/lms/INSTALL).
